Job Summary:
- The Design Specialist 2 role is to provide support to the Design Specialists within the Region by acting as a role model and technical resource, provide Design Best Practices guidance, develop relationships and build a Team Spirit within the Region, and assist the Design Co-Ordinator in assigning new Design Requests to the appropriate Design Resource. This role is additional to the Job Description for the Design Specialist Position already inhabited.
- In addition, a Design Specialist II – Team Lead is expected to review and validate the work of a Design Engineer I or Associate Design Engineer.
- The Design Specialist 2 will operate under the direction and supervision of the Engineering Manager and will oversee and supervise daily activities of a set team.
- The Design Specialist 2 is considered a subject matter expert in the engineering discipline.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ability to translate customer requirements into functional system designs
- Review pre-construction design drawings and documentation.
- Coaches and motivates team members to successfully perform job requirements and to meet and exceed goals and objectives
- Provide technical support and expertise for the national Design team
- Provide administrative and process support and expertise for the national Design team
- Acts as a technical interface with other teams to resolve and promote issues, communicate plans and conclusions as well as recommendations for issue closure
- Generate functional system descriptions and block diagram
- Perform Peer Reviews on completed Designs, adhering to a formalized Peer Review process
- Drive a culture of collaboration both within and outside the team
- Identify strengths and weaknesses within the individual members
- Provide insight into team performance, coverage and potential areas of improvement to the National Engineering Manager
- Maintain knowledge of the current Design quote request queue and assist with delegation of tasks or quote assignments where needed
