Accounts Payable Supervisor

 

The AP Supervisor will oversee and manage the accounts payable process for the company. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of invoices, expense reports, and payments, while also leading a team of accounts payable professionals. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager and plays a critical role in maintaining our financial stability and supporting the company's growth.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Supervise and lead a team of accounts payable staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Manage the accounts payable process, including the receipt, verification, and processing of invoices, expense reports, and payment requests.
  • Review and reconcile vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies or issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a well-organized and up-to-date accounts payable filing system.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement and receiving, to resolve purchase order and invoice discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting regulations, and Canadian tax laws.
  • Prepare and process payments to vendors, including checks, wire transfers, and ACH transactions.
  • Continuously assess and improve the accounts payable process to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide regular reports and analysis on accounts payable metrics to support management decision-making.
  • Assist in the annual financial audit and provide necessary documentation and support to auditors.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting practices and regulations to ensure compliance.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership and team management experience.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Education or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounts payable, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
